Continuing on with Princess's birth story:
May 30th, 2006 (8:30 PM)
We arrived at the hospital and headed up to L&D. At the nurse's station we waited to be shown a room. Everything felt surreal to me at this point-like I was watching A Baby Story on TLC. Once in our room, a nursing assistant came in and gave us the run down on what was going to happen in the next few hours. I had a small birth plan and gave it to her at this point. She was not very friendly or helpful at all which was really disconcerting. My head was still throbbing and all I was getting from this TECH was grief. She took my blood pressure (the reason I was there to deliver) and it was PERFECT. I think it was 117/82 (or something) which was pretty normal during most of my pregnancy. I remember looking at DH several times throughout the night and saying, "she's not ready (meaning Princess). We need to go home. Take me home." Well, I was finally changed and ready to be hooked up to all the monitors. One item on my birthplan was that I wanted to be numbed on my arm where my IV would be inserted. I am a huge needlephob and I knew that this was going to be the worst part of preparation for me. (forget that I was going to push out a watermelon-just don't bring the needles near me!) After that, the rude Tech came back in to insert the cervadil into my girlies to "ripen" my cervix. I said to her, "You are going to insert what? Where?!" It was a TINY little pill that she had to position in my cervix using no instruments. I remember her having trouble doing this and saying, "these little things are slippery." Who says that to a hugely pregnant woman? Like I said, she wasn't very nice. What I didn't notice at that time was that she was missing a finger. DH pointed this out to me later and said that was why she was having problems inserting the pill. After we were left alone, I again told DH that we needed to go home and that Princess wasn't ready. He, of course, just thought I was exaggerating because I was scared. I wasn't. He asked if I wanted to rent a movie to pass the time. I didn't care as I was slipping into sleep in the hopes that my migraine would fade. I don't remember much about the rest of that night. All I knew is that I wanted to go home.
